One of the attributes of violence in communities is a result of abuse throughout a child's life associated with inter-generational trauma. Understanding the different types of abuses and providing assistance will eliminate them from experiencing future violence.
A pattern of failing to provide for a child's basic needs. It is abuse through omission; of not doing something resulting in significant harm or risk of significant harm. There are four types of neglect: physical neglect, medical neglect, educational neglect, and emotional neglect

The law in Canada says that you must be 18 years of age to be able to smoke marijuana. Unfortunately, this law is a problem for many of our youth, because marijuana is easily accessible to them in the community.
Violence is everywhere. It is unfortunate, but the most important question is; how do we stop it? Violence in the home stems from years of abuse. Children witnessing abuse in the home with family members, and emotional abuse towards children that they deemed is OK. This is the start of an unhealthy upbringing that leads to violent reactions.
We have recognized that they are different types of learning disabilities such as; Dyslexia, ADHD, and Non-Verbal Learning, and because of these learning disabilities, they will result in behavioural issues. Recognizing these disabilities early, and implementing a concrete plan in some cases may eliminate many of the behavioural issues. Also, recognizing many children may suffer from Anxiety or Depression, understanding the who, what, and how are important in providing the required assistance
Like being black is not tough enough, now there are individuals who represent LGBTQQIP2SAA, and are faced with double discrimination. Being black, gay, or lesbian, has been an issue nationwide, much less here in Toronto Ontario. This is an issue many preferred to keep silent because of their fear of how they would be treated by friends and families. The combination of racism and discrimination have not only affected us in the workplace and in public, but it has also divided our family.
Lack of education across the professional level pertaining to the cultural dynamics within the black families, will make matters more likely to report issues within the Black families that are different.
Poverty at both household and neighbourhood levels is known to be the greatest risk factor for families, and is being associated with an increased likelihood of surveillance by social and health services, and with and greater exposure to familial stressors that increase the risk of child neglect and maltreatment.
The system has historically failed to address the needs of African Canadians, establishing institutional policies and practices that are grounded in negative values, and lacked provisions for identifying or addressing systemic anti-Black racism
A disproportionate number of African-Canadian children and youth in need of assistance.
The need for disaggregated race-based data would support the demand for culturally relevant programs in the black community.

Lack of culturally-relevant programs and services in the community
Meagre representation of African Canadians in Ontario management front-line staff and caregivers
Need better coordination and integration across African-Canadian Organizations
